چکیده

rodegenerative disorder, in which alterations of the immune system are involved. Interleukin (IL)-15 stimulates cellular immune response and induces growth and differentiation of various immune cells. RANTES, promoting leukocyte infiltration to sites of inflammation, mediates the trafficking and homing of immune cells. To clarify the potential effect of levodopa on the immunological network of PD, we analyzed IL-15 and RANTES serum levels in PD patients, treated or not with levodopa, and in healthy donors. Levodopa-treated patients showed significantly higher IL-15 and RANTES circulating levels with respect to healthy controls and higher, although not significantly, levels with respect to untreated patients. So, we hypothesize that the immunological alterations found in PD may be linked, at least in part, to levodopa therapy.

Electrostatic Dispersion and Evaporation of Dense and Dilute Clusters of Drops of High-energy Fuel for Soot Control1

The high-energy-density (HED) fuels developed under U.S. Navy sponsorship as a replacement for conventional liquid fuels in its missile propulsion systems have the drawback of high soot propensity: this makes missiles visible and thus strategically unacceptable. Experimental evidence of heavy sooting from such potential fuels has been presented by Law[l]. Soot propensity is defined here as the ...

Numerical Prediction of Air-preheating Effect on Soot Formation in Diffusion Flame During Early Transience Following Ignition

A CFD-based numerical model has been developed for the determination of the volume concentration and number density of soot in a laminar diffusion flame of methane in air, under transient condition following ignition of the flame. The transience is studied from the point of ignition till the final steady state is reached. The burner is an axi-symmetric co-flowing one with the fuel issuing throu...

Internally mixed soot, sulfates, and organic matter in aerosol particles from Mexico City

Soot particles, which are aggregated carbonaceous spherules with graphitic structures, are major aerosol constituents that result from burning of fossil fuel, biofuel, and biomass. Their properties commonly change through reaction with other particles or gases, resulting in complex internal mixtures. Using a transmission electron microscope (TEM) for both imaging and chemical analysis, we measu...

Observations of soot during droplet combustion at low gravity: heptane and heptane/monochloroaIkane mixtures

Experimental observations of the combustion of sooting fuel droplets, performed in a drop tower to create a low gravity environment, are reported. Free n-heptane droplets and suspended droplets of heptane. monochloroalkanes. and mixtures of monochloro-octane and heptane were studied. Initial droplet diameters ranged from 0.4 to I. 1 mm. The results suggest that soot may influence droplet vapori...
